HUD by RudyDieudonne HUD by RudyDieudonne
This was a fun project. Around the time Iron Man came out, I was really into playing around with Photoshop (I had 7 at the time), and so I decided to play around with the 3D filter. After a while, I had created my own Iron Man HUD, and I liked it so much, I did a few more like it. This is actually the second in the series. It was funny, because I later stumbled an Abduzeedo tutorial on how to make your own, but it wasn't nearly as good as what I got from just playing around on PS.

may I ask how did you do that "bulge" effect, I mean the HUD kinda pop up and curved.

I used the 3D filter in Photoshop, then mapped each layer to its own sized sphere depending on how far from my face it was supposed to be :D

Ahh, CS5. For some ridiculous reason, Adobe changed up the 3D effects options in CS5, so while it is possible, I personally just downloaded the old 3D effects plugin and installed that instead of learning the new one.

So basically... im gonna have to make a huge sphere, make it invisible, and paste my images on it maybe add some glow, some blurs and stuff for when i make the HUD?

You could do that... how I did it was I just made the layers flat, added the effects like the glow, transparency, etc., then I used the 3D filter to give them their curve. I used different sized spheres, such that the closer to my face the hologram was supposed to be, the smaller the sphere I gave the hologram itself.
